| | Waco History | |
The "Barn in the Park," current home of the Civic Theatre, was once knows as the WACO "Assembly Barn" on Boak Field. This photo shows the WACO's ready for test flight and delivery.
By 1926, the factory on Union Street was producing one airplane per day. About 80 employees were needed to maintain this volume. In three short years since moving to Troy, the company had grown to exceed sales of civilian aircraft by any other company in the country.
The barns in this photo
were once located on Judd Boak's Hay Field, the present location of Hobart Arena. The areas in and around the barns were used as the final assembly location for the WACO airplanes that were rolled through the streets of Troy over the bridge to Boak's Farm. From there they were flown off to customers and dealers throughout the nation. (Marker Number No. 004.)
