1. William "Bill" Buckner Memorial Drive Marker

Inscription. William “Bill” Buckner Memorial Drive celebrates the memory of No. 16, Bill Buckner, who was the epitome of a "Bull" Sullivan era football player. A two-time All-American quarterback, Bill threw 17 touchdown passes before an injury ended his EMJC career. Not only was he a true All-American both on and off the football field, Bill Buckner was instrumental in establishing the Sullivan Division of the EMCC foundation, which has raised millions in support of the school he loved so dearly. Bill also established the first Fellowship of Christian Athletes huddle at EMJC in 1965. After stellar careers as a football player and coach, he was chosen as State Director of the FCA and became the only employee of FCA in Mississippi. When he passed away in 2014 after 27 years as State Director, FCA’s staff had grown to 31, with five volunteers, and was reaching 350 campuses in Mississippi. This impressive growth speaks volumes about Bill Buckner's inner strength, confidence, leadership, determination and commitment to God's work.
