1. Shongelo Marker
Inscription. The frontier town of Shongelo was located here around the grist mill of C.D. Austin. Constructed in the early 1800s, the mill was powered by water flowing from seven springs found in hollows east of this site. By 1923, the Shongelo community had become extinct.
 
Erected 1998 by Bienville National Forest, National Forests of Mississippi and Mississippi Department of Archives and History.
