Inscription. Raymond A. Young started operations here in Kingfisher with a single variety goods store on this site in 1928, expanding to 12 stores in the following years.

By 1935, Young's expanded business required relocation of the warehouse and purchasing operations to nearby Oklahoma City, where he partnered with Rawdon Tomlinson and Enoch Gosselin.

Needing a name for their venture, the three took the first initials of their last names and placed them in order of their ages and established the first TG&Y Store in 1936.

Growing to over 900 stores nationwide, the TG&Y chain specialized in merchandise priced from five cents to one dollar with the motto, "What people want at a price they can afford.?"
