Kingfisher in Kingfisher County, Oklahoma — The American South (West South Central)
Bracken Building Downtown Hospital
In 1928, local physicians J.W. Pendleton and C.W. Hodgson opened Kingfisher's first hospital on the second floor. Known locally as the Clinic Hospital and offering 20-beds and access to "modern" x-ray equipment, many an expectant mother could recall laboriously climbing the 28 steps to deliver their babies.
A fondly remembered ground floor tenant was the Ross Jones Drug store, said to have served up delicious ice cream sodas while offering nickel candy bars and indispensable pharmaceutical advice.
Erected by Oklahoma Centennial 07 and Historic Kingfisher Trails.
