Kelly School House
(Built Between 1854 and 1865)
July 4th, 1854 - David and Mary Jane Kelly donated this ground for a school house for the sum of one dollar.
1867 - The first recorded date classes were held. Matthew N. Greer was teacher that year. He had attended the Witherspoon Institute and the Butler Academy. He had also served in the Civil War and had been a Union prisoner at Andersonvile, Ga.
1904 - A second room (the farthest from the road) was added.
The Kelly School House is now part of the Buffalo Elementary School. It is one of the oldest public school houses in use in the United States.
This plaque is dedicated to all the teachers who have served at the Kelly School House and to all their students.
