1. Remembering John Mikulin Marker

Inscription. a humble man of strong character, and of deep love and compassion for others.

In 1967 as a San Francisco police officer, he founded the Little People’s Fishing Program, which enables hundreds of disabled children, neighborhood youngster, homeless individuals and senior citizens to experience the joy of ocean fishing each year at no cost to them.

The program is a shining example of the determination and commitment of one of San Franciscan, with the support of family and friends reaching out to bring happiness to others.

This plaque is presented by the Fisherman’s Wharf Merchants Association in honor and recognition of an extraordinary individual.

2. Remembering John Mikulin Marker
the fighter, John finally lost his bout with congestive heart failure. John was born in San Francisco on June 11, 1917, and began his effort to change the world at Balboa High School. Shortly before his 18th birthday, John began courting his future wife and life-long partner, Georgette, who he married in 1940 and who survives him today. In 1942, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy. where as a boxer, he was selected to stay behind to fight Army boxers. After winning his bouts, John was stationed at a Naval base in Livermore where he earned his honorable discharge in 1946. The following year, John became a father with the birth of his son. John enrolled at the police academy in 1949. With three daughters soon to come, it was a wise choice. In 26 years as a San Francisco police officer, John made countless arrests & busts & was elected Officer of the Year in 1971. John's Police and Little People's fishing programs took thousands on ocean day trips. John was recognized by stars, mayors, & governors for his selflessness. John touched literally thousands of people with his life. His family and friends will remember him at a Memorial Service Mon,
