Inscription. Jacob Rohrer bought 58.5 acres and a farmhouse near the Cambell Tavern in 1807 and divided the property into 134 lots. The town was named Mountjoy (one word) after the Good Ship Mountjoy. He placed the lots around this center square. The town encompassed the area from Jacob St. to just west of Barbara St. and from North Alley to South Alley. He sold the first lot in 1809 and thereafter sold the lots by lottery at $85 each.
