In 1883, the Kearney Township Hall was built here on land purchased for $100. Township offices were on the first floor. The second floor was the Opera House with space for dances, travelling shows, and other community activities. The Antrim County offices were also in the building until the Courthouse was completed in 1905. In the early 1930's, it was decided that a new building was needed. The old Kearney Township Hall was razed in 1934. Alice Jane White from the Bazaar next door gave the village ten feet of her property to enable a larger building. Through several federal Depression-era relief programs, the new Bellaire Community Hall was built and dedicated July 9, 1937. It included the township's clerk's office, a stage, dressing rooms, and a basketball court on the upstairs level. The basement had a full kitchen, banquet hall, shower facilities for school athletes, a public library and public restrooms. The building was again home to a variety of community gatherings. The library moved out in 1968 and in 1976, the building began its transformation into the Village Hall and museum of today.
