The design elements of a memorial should encompass all relative information of the memory it represents and reflect any symbolic facts from the history of the community for which it is dedicated.
The outer most memorial foundation (behind the wall) is 46' from radius center point. This depicts the official end of WWII, December 31, 1946.
The innermost memorial foundation (the front of the wall) is 41' from radius center point. This depicts the beginning of WWII, December 7, 1941.
The granite base of the wall is 22" in width. This depicts the 22 different governing departments of Butler County.
The granite wall thickness is 12". This depicts the 12 letters of Butler County.
The granite wall height is 5'. This depicts unity of the military branches listed.
The granite wall arc length is 26′-9″ (321 inches). This depicts the number of military killed in action (K.I.A.) from Butler County known this date.
The markers at the base of the wall represent those 321 killed in action from Butler County standing tall like blades of grass against a shadow green background representing the resting fields of their fallen comrades.
56 stars around the pillar caps represent the communities of Butler County.
The pillars at each end represent a sandbag protection bunker for the flanks of the fallen heroes resting place and depicts a guarded gate for those that enter. The left pillar is unmarked and dedicated to those served and unknown.
The world map reflects the colors of the American flag as closely as possible. Red represents the maximum occupation of the land masses of axis powers. White represents the land masses of the remaining countries or allies. Blue represents the water masses.
Four black monoliths with the sides of a pentagon, each side representing a branch of service of WWII, point skyward and have inscribed the numbers of K.I.A., W.I.A., P.O.W., and M.I.A.
The back of the memorial is dedicated to those that sacrificed and suffered at home and abroad as a result of the war in their belief of a free world.
An eagle represents the power of strength of our unity and freedom.
A pulsating world globe light represents the living spirit of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for world peace.
This memorial includes various inscriptions of information to educate those who may have forgotten the what? and the where? of WWII.
This memorial rests under the shadow of our "Silent Defender", a reminder that those who have fallen are still our protectors.
