1. Corner of South Dakota and Wyoming on the Montana State Boundary Marker
Inscription.
This position was established by Rollin J. Reeves, U.S. Surveyor and Astronomer, on July 31, 1877, under serious threat of Indian attack. The original monument was replaced with the present quartzite monolith on October 25, 1904, by Frank S. Peck, U.S. Surveyor. The U.S. BLM Cadastral Survey and Wyoming, Montana and South Dakota Surveying Societies coordinated the preservation of this monument in 1993.
