Maintenance of Way (MOW) Bunk Car Union Pacific 9060161
Maintenance-Of-Way also called "MOW" for short, is equipment used in constructing and maintaining the rails and roadbed for the safe operation of the railroads. Bunk cars were the temporary residences of maintenance crews when working out of town.
While the date when the car was manufactured is unknown, a stencil on the side indicates it to have been rebuilt in July 1973.
The car is 55 feet long and weighs 73,600 pounds.
The maintenance of way bunk car was obtained by the Inland Empire Railway Historical Society from the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1995, the bunk car was donated by the Inland Empire Railway Historical Society to the Spokane Fire Station Museum dba Fire and Rail Museum. It was maintained, operated and under the care and ownership of the Fire and Rail Museum from 1995 to 2015. On October 1, 2015, ownership was transferred to the Hillyard Heritage Museum Society.
