Inscription.
This steel box car was built in 1948 by the Great Northern Railroad. It was transferred to the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1970.

The box car is 44 feet long and weighs 56,000 pounds.

A box car is a railroad car that is enclosed and generally used to carry freight. The box car, while not the simplest freight car design, is probably the most versatile, since it can carry most loads. Box Cars have side doors of varying size and operation, and some include end doors and adjustable bulkheads to load very large items.

The box car was donated by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad to the Greater Hillyard Business Association in 1992. In 2005, ownership was transferred to the Hillyard Heritage Museum Society. It was maintained, operated and under the care of the Spokane Fire Station Museum dba Fire and Rail Museum from 1992 to 2015.
