1st Lieutenant William Bradford Turner
World War I in Ronssoy, France, 27 September 1918

Although wounded three times, he single-handedly rushed and led others to attack several enemy machine gun positions and four hostile trench lines. While in hand-to-hand combat, and at great risk to his own life, he accomplished his mission and saved the lives of fellow soldiers until he was finally surrounded and killed by the enemy.
