1. 817 Delta Avenue Marker
This location housed the Gladstone Grocery Company established by Peter Lindblad. Mr. Lindblad was born in Soderham Sweden in 1869. He was 22 years old when he arrived in Gladstone. He married Christina Hagland from Escanaba in 1891 and they had eight children. He worked for Swan Nelson at the Star Grocery for several years and then formed a partnership with J.E. Horngren. When Mr. Horngren retired, Lindblad became the sole owner in 1911. Mr. Lindblad was very active in the community, serving on the school board and various committees. He was in the grocery business for 35 years. He passed away in 1936.
Dr. Alexander Kimmond opened his Dentist Office above the grocery store. Kimmand was born in Pennsylvania in 1875 and settled in Gladstone soon after his graduation from dental school. He served as past president of the Delta County Dental Society and started a free Dental Clinic along with Dr. Stellwagon and Dr. Kason, for kindergarten and first graders each year. The Clinic was sponsored by the Gladstone City Club. Dr. Kimmond helped to start the City Municipal Band and played for many years.
In the early 1940s the Olson Hanson Mens Wear opened in this location. The Store for Men and Women Who Shop for Men.
By 1953, Joseph Butch opened a hardware store.
