Butler in Butler County, Pennsylvania — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
Pullman-Standard
This railcar, MILW 101340, was built in June of 1974 at Pullman-Standard, Butler, as part of a 300 car order for the Milwaukee, St. Paul, and Pacific RR. The 4750 cu. ft. capacity covered hopper served 36 years hauling grain between the farmlands and food processing plants until 2010. This type of rail car was the primary product of Pullman-Standard, Butler, from the late 1950's until the plant closed in 1982. The rails that this car sits on were manufactured by Carnegie Steel of Pittsburgh, Pa, in 1902 and were part of the original Butler plant construction.
Special thanks to the Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific RR for the donation of MILW 101340, Kasgro Rail Corp for its restoration, Steighner Crane Services for off-rail handling, and to James L. Diamond, 20 year employee and freight car engineer at P-S, Butler, whose inspiration and hard work made this memorial a reality.
Erected 2024.
