Inscription.
The MCLB was established as the Marine Corps Depot of Supplies on December 28, 1942. The Navy turned it over to the corps as a storage site for supplies and equipment. By the end of WWII, the base had outgrown its facilities. An additional 2,000 acres were annexed in October 1946.

Completion of Route 66 with all weather capability on the eve of WWII was significant to the nation’s war effort. Critical troops, equipment and supplies were transported to military bases across the country, thereby helping to facilitate the single greatest troop mobilization in the history of the nation.

NEBO Annex of MCLB has enormous storage and distribution capabilities. Home to thousands of Marines during WWII, Korea War, and Vietnam War. Now its primary work force are civilian Marines.

The Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard was formed in Barstow in 1967 and is the only remaining Mounted Color Guard in the Marine Corps today.
