Mother Goose was founded in 1945 by Mary Rorhs on Main Street south of the railroad tracks. Around 1977 she sold the store to Patricia Warren, who moved it to this location. It closed in 1996. The subsequent store, Duck Duck Goose, also sold children's clothing.

“Mary Rohrs started the Mother Goose Shop in downtown Glen Ellyn after her first husband was shot down over France during World War II, and ran the children’s clothing store for 33 years.

“'She knew everyone in town, and liked what she was doing and liked interacting with the public,' said her son, John. 'She was really good in the store.'”
