1. Friendship Baptist Church Marker
Inscription.
Friendship Baptist Church. . Friendship was birthed from the white Hamilton Baptist Church in 1869. The Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Association was organized here in 1870. The Queen Anne style structure of the church was completed in 1911. In January 1912, four Colored People, one who was a woman, were forcibly removed from jail and hanged from an ancient live oak tree on this property for a crime they did not commit. In the 1920s, 1930s, and later in the 1950s, the church and old annex provided a place for classes to educate Colored Children. Through the years, Friendship continues to be a house of worship that glorifies God and provides a place for Christian Education so members and visitors can not only hear and study, but become doers of His Word. Friendship also extends itself to the community through many outreach projects and by opening its doors for various activities that enhance the quality of life for those who live here.
