1. House Marker
After settling and living in a log house for the first few years, the Buckleys built the original or front part of the present house in the early 1850's. It is a typical I-house (found in Indiana, Illinois, and Iowa) and characterized by symmetrical door and window placements, end chimney, and central stairway. The kitchen was added onto the North in 1917, porches were added and changed at various times, and the last addition, North bedroom, was added about 1932. Early electricity was provided to the house via a Delco plant (generator) housed in the garage. Through the years three generations of five children each were raised in this strict Irish home.

In memory of the Buckleys who developed Buckley Homestead: Dennis and wife Catherine Fleming Buckley, their son John and his wife Harriet Dewitt Buckley their only son Charles and his wife Alta Garrison Buckley, and their children Irene Ida, Gladys Mae, Rosie Bell, Charles Archibald, and Gerald Albert Buckley.
