Gustof Edward Dehlin was born in 1889 in Vastergotland Sweden and immigrated to the America in 1893. He graduated from Pharmaceutical School in 1913 and lived in Manistique and worked for a local druggist.
He married Joan (Josie) Barrett from Gladstone in 1915 and settled in the city and raised three children. In 1919 he purchased the Drug Store formerly owned by Neville and Neveaux at 822 Delta and opened Dehlin Drug Store.
Gus was a Rotarian, past master of the Gladstone Lodge, a member of the Swedish Club and the Gladstone Golf Club. Josie worked in the office of the CW Davis Lumber Company.
Their daughter Alice married August Altese and when Gus retired in 1958, Alice and August along with Michale LaPine, continued to operate the store until 1989. Augie was born in Detroit in 1922 and after graduation, he attended the University of Michigan and met Alice Dehlin. He served in WWII and then received his Pharmaceutical Degree in 1953. He married Alice the same year and they made their home in Gladstone. The Dehlin Drug Store operated for 70 years in this location.
Gus and Joan also had two sons, Dr. James Dehlin who practiced in Gladstone and Charles who worked for General Motors in Flint Michigan. Gus passed away in February of 1972.
