1. Salvation Army Building Marker
Inscription. Notice the erased name above the entrance. Arriving in Salem in the early 1890s, the Salvation Army activities revolved around practicing Christian principles, especially charity. They became recognized as one of the leading religious groups contributing to prison reform, visiting the sick and elderly, and helping feed the hungry. They owned this building until 1968.
