Inscription.
Tudor Hall was named in honor of Simon W. Tudor (1886-1956), a prominent businessman, church and civic leader in Alexandria-Pineville. He was a native of Richmond County, Kentucky, and a star athlete at Georgetown College, Kentucky. He was recruited in 1910 to Louisiana College to initiate the athletic programs at LC. While he attended Louisiana College he was also the athletic director and coached the football, basketball and baseball teams. Simon Tudor married Ollie Beall, the daughter of W.C. Beall, a cofounder of Louisiana College. He was a generous benefactor to Louisiana College and served as a trustee and President of the Board of Trustees of the college. S.W. Tudor founded Tudor Construction Company with his son, Robert Beall Tudor, in 1946. Tudor Construction Company was the contractor for many of the buildings on this campus, including Tudor Hall.

Notably, at 5-foot-9, 165 pounds, he was a two-time All-Kentucky center there in 1908 and ’09. He is also considered the father of athletics at

LCU (formerly Louisiana College) and Centenary College as a player, coach and administrator for sports teams at both institutions prior to World War I.
Besides his athletic prowess, Simon was an excellent debater at LC. He once competed on a two-man debate team — in 1911, mind you — in which the subject was: “Resolved, That it is in the best interests of all governments concerned that Canada be annexed to the United States.” He was on the team that took the negative side.
