Cloverport History - Late 1900's to Present
Inscription.
The late 1920's saw a change in the economic health of the town. The railroad shops closed, putting many men out of work during the Depression years. The town's population began to decline after the closing of its last big industry, the tile plant, in the mid 1970's. The town buildings began to deteriorate and decay.
In 1964, the Cloverport Optimist Club sponsored the first Sacajawea Festival, an event so popular it has remained an annual fixture. During the 1980's, residents combined their efforts find ways to turn Cloverport around. Today, several organizations work together on projects, to rebuilt our community.
