1. Harrison House/Spin House Marker
Inscription. This house represents an early American rural design with parts of the house dating from the 18th century. Note the dormer windows on the 2nd floor which are unusual for the Worcester County area. Donated by John and Hale Harrison in 1996, the building originally stood near Berlin. Its simple design contains a first floor all-purpose space with a fireplace used for heating and cooking and a combined living and dining room. Sleeping quarters would occupy the 2nd floor. Houses of this type could have been used as a residence for an overseer at the original Furnace Town village. The building houses the spinning studio and objects which depict daily life during the height of Furnace Town's operations from 1829-1847.
