Inscription. Replacing three buildings from the 1870s, this retail block known as the “White Corner” remained relatively unchanged until the late 1940s. The Breyman/Boise family unified two buildings and removed all decorative ornamentation to model the then-popular International style of architecture. This renovation reflected the mid-1900s effort to revive Salem’s downtown commercial businesses.
