1. St. Mary's Parish Building/R. Frank Jones Museum Marker
This fine and rare example of rural Gothic Revival architecture was built for St. Mary the Virgin Episcopal Church as its parish or vestry house in Pocomoke City, Maryland ca. 1845-1847. The front and center sections of the building with its Gothic windows, barrel ceiling and original wainscoting comprise the original building. The rear section was added in the early 1940's as a kitchen for the parish house. In 1923, following the Pocomoke City fire, the little building was pressed into service as a public school and during World War II, it became a USO building. The Worcester County Historical Society moved it to Furnace Town in 1977.
This building houses a broad collection of historical objects and is named in honor of R. Frank Jones, who rediscovered the furnace in 1970 and became a leading advocate for its preservation.
