1. Atkinson Voting House/Weave House Marker

Inscription. In the 1880s, Worcester County was divided into 9 separate election districts. The Furnace Town property sat on the dividing line between Election Districts 6 (Coulbourne) and 7 (Atkinson). Furnace Town sits within the Atkinson District. The county erected small houses in the center of the districts for the purpose of holding elections. It may have been used for other county purposes such as a one-room schoolhouse for the children of this community. This house stood on Old Furnace Road near Pusey Branch and was donated by the Worcester County Commissioners in 1980. Now home to our weaving program, the building houses two historic looms and other tools of the weaving trade which are used to make rugs, table runners and placements.
