Near Snow Hill in Worcester County, Maryland — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
Cropper Wash House/Print Shop
Farms throughout Worcester County often had to be self-sufficient and included many small buildings for different tasks. This structure, built about 1890 as the laundry house for the Robert Cropper farm in Worcester County, represents these small outbuildings that often are overlooked. Donated by Robert and Calvin Cropper in 1980, Furnace Town converted it into a print shop.
A printer served many small communities as the conduit to the outside world in publishing national and local news, and in providing handbills and other notices of local activities. A variety of manual printing presses and type used during the 19th century are on display here
