Inscription.
Photographer and painter Saul Leiter lived here from 1952 until 2013. Regarded as one of the preeminent photographers of the 20th century, he produced color work renowned for its painterly qualities and abstract elements. Leiter was a key contributor to the New York school of photography, shooting most of his street images here in the East Village and often projecting his slides onto the walls of his home studio.

A good view of the marker is currently difficult, as some of the building interior is undergoing renovation, thus necessitating a construction notice board directly outside the entrance.
