This site is the birthplace of the first bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette, Bishop Jules B. Jeanmard. Born August 15, 1879, Jeanmard belonged to St. Bernard Church where he received baptism, confirmation, first holy communion, and served as an altar boy. He was consegrated as the first bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette, LA on December 8, 1918, and served until his resignation on March 13, 1956 Bishop Jeanmard died on February 28, 1957.
