Inscription.
The new millennium brought several changes to the Bald Knob Cross of Peace. During the early 2000s, the Cross was faced with (and greatly affected by) both external and internal deterioration caused by lack of interest in the organization. Disputes between the then current board members arose, which ultimately led to legal litigation in 2006. As a part of the litigation process, the Court issued a mandatory "lock down" on all the Bald Knob Cross of Peace's properties until proceedings were complete.

This meant that no maintenance or upkeep work could be performed to protect and preserve the Cross. However, during this entire litigation process, a separate, charitable organization named "Friends of the Cross" was founded. The members of this organization worked together to raise funds that would go towards the restoration of the Cross once a decision was made by the court.
