Inscription. The OA-10 was the USAAF's version of the Navy’s PBY (P=Patrol, B=Bomber, Y=Consolidated Aircraft) series. First flying on 28 March 1935, nearly 2,500 PBYs were built in seaplane and amphibian versions by Consolidated, Vickers, Boeing of Canada (Vancouver BC) and the Naval Aircraft Factory. The USAAF acquired 380 0A-10s primarily for air-sea rescue ("DUMBO" missions) throughout WW II and several years thereafter. OA-10s served at McChord with the Air Rescue Service in the late 1940s and early 1950s. During 1948, surviving OA-10As were redesignated as the SA-10A (Search Amphibian)
