1. “Maintenance Man Statue" Marker

Inscription. This statue of a lone logistics professional is dedicated to Airmen past and present in the maintenance and logistics career fields and represents sustained superior performance over eight decades of service and mission generation. It is prominently displayed here as Maintainers and Logisticians from all over the world have completed training at Sheppard AFB and continue to do so to this day. In October 1941, 270 American Airmen started in the first class at Sheppard Field studying aircraft and engine maintenance. Later, the first international students began training in 1943, making the base one of the first international training facilities.

Day in and day out around the world, dedicated Airmen ensure superior readiness of United States and Coalition Air Force aircraft enabling air dominance. Maintainers and Logisticians with the utmost skill and professionalism are the foundation of mission execution. These elite Airmen and their efforts are immortalized in this statue and are honored annually with the Lt Gen Leo Marquez Award, which in the form of this statue recognizes maintenance professionals in the aircraft,
