The marker is mounted on the southwest/right corner of this former telephone central office building.
of Herbert James Pate II, 32, who died Jan. 31 in a plane crash north of Coalgate. Also killed were two children of state Rep. Bill Brewster, D-Marietta, and the pilot.
Pate was born and raised in Madill, and he was the third generation of his family to publish the local newspaper. He began selling newspapers at age 5 and was named publisher in 1987.
