They depended on Pate, publisher of The Madill Record, to tell them about school board elections, water rate increases, about who had a baby or who died. But The Madill Record this week carried the obituaryof Herbert James Pate II, 32, who died Jan. 31 in a plane crash north of Coalgate. Also killed were two children of state Rep. Pate was born and raised in Madill, and he was the third generation of his family to publish the local newspaper. He began selling newspapers at age 5 and was named publisher in 1987.
