Inscription. This site was home to the Ontario Laundry Company beginning in 1896. In 1940, Southern Service, an affiliate of the laundry company, built this Streamline Moderne architectural style building for a cost of $35,000. The front patio area was previously used as a drive-thru for the laundry business. The circular tower at the southeast corner of the building juts three stories high and was designed to resemble a washing machine agitator. The poured concrete building features classic detailing of the style including expanses of steel frame windows, long horizontal lines, and curving forms.
