William John Micks arrived in Gladstone from Sudbury Canada in 1897 in a horse drawn wagon with a cow tied behind. He was one of the most flourishing pioneers in the new city. He immediately built this beautiful building and established a Feed and Grain Store. He served on the board for Cloverland Milling Company and built the grocery Store in Kipling. He retired in 1917, and his son Bernard took over the store and it became Micks Brothers Grocery Store. In 1920 a brick 28x40 addition was added to the back by Nels Langerquist. In 1924 the plate glass windows were added to the front. The Micks family lived above the store throughout their entire ownership.

In 1945 Frank Stemec purchased the building and the business and it became Franks Food Market, a part of the Northland food chain. He was a meat cutter by trade and worked for the Star Market. Frank and his father Michael lived above the store.

By 1963 the building was purchased by the Sjostrom family, and they combined a Hardware Store and a Nursery Shop. After a few years the store was vacant. With the devastating fire of Swensons Furniture Store in 1966, this building was then used for their business, until they re-located to the Rialto Building.

The Royer family established The Magic Floor Center in the 1974 and later converted to Home Furnishings.
