This beautiful building was built in 1888 at the corner of 6th St. and Delta Avenue. It was called the Hassell Inn. The Exchange Bank was located on the lower left side of the building until it was moved to 810 Delta Avenue and became the Gladstone State Savings Bank. On the lower right side was a dry good store and upstairs was a hotel managed by Augusta Hassell. Several early settlers stayed here when they first came to the city. Webster Marble, Richard Mason and others. Later the name was changed to the Hotel Delta until it was moved to this site in 1900, then it was called the New Gladstone Hotel. It had 18 guest rooms and served three meals a day. It was the stagecoach stop twice a day to the West Gladstone train depot. The phone number was 102. Mrs. Hassell sold the property to the Henry Royer family and moved to Wisconsin.

In 1930, Mr. And Mrs. Allen Reynolds purchased the hotel and re-named it the Jean Hotel. In 1934 the U.S. Government purchased the property for $7,500, to build the new Post Office. The hotel was torn down by William Gamache in October 1934. The vault from the bank was eventually moved to the new City Hall.

The Reynold's then leased property at 807 Delta Avenue and re-opened a small hotel and restaurant.
