August 14th, 1916, The First National Bank was organized and received its charter from FDIC. Original officers were President H.B. Laing, Vice Pres. Frederick Huber, directors Michael Gleason, A.E. Neff, Adam Schaible, J.J. Cleary and E.J. Noreus, Cashier.
The original location was 813 Delta Avenue, then the new First National Bank was built in 1921 at 823 Delta Ave. and served in this location for 71 years. In 1970 the building experienced an expansion and remodeling.
This was the only local bank that did not close during the Great Depression.
In 1988 the name was changed to First Bank, Upper Michigan with a branch office in Escanaba. The new main office and headquarters was built in 1992 and located at 1400 Delta Avenue.
