Inscription.
One of the most trusted and respected early merchants in Gladstone was Henry Rosenblum. Mr. Rosenblum immigrated from Kiev Russia-Poland and settled in Gladstone in 1891. He and his wife Rose opened their first store in the 900 block on Delta Avenue, and after 10 years of growth and success, they purchased land at 816 Delta.

They established a new building that was exceptional in design. The beautiful brick structure's foundation was 50x140 with a full basement. Nels Gormsen was the original contractor. The store could boast that it was "The Biggest, Best and Busiest in Gladstone" The store offered the finest up-to-date merchandise and the decor changed for every Holiday, even Arbor Day. Spring and Fall openings and exceptional window displays were a highlight for the community. Style Shows and Parade Floats resembled carnival colors. After 25 years in business, the store was enlarged and remodeled and a balcony was added for office space in 1921. Eighteen employes [sic], at that time, were awarded and retirees were all recognized. Mrs. Rosenblum hosted an annual party for employees and their families, in her home every year.

When Henry Rosenblum retired, he sold the building to the JCPenney Company. They restructured and held their Grand Opening in September 1928.

In later years the building
