Regarding Wheaton College 9/11 Memorial. Todd Beamer, who died on Flight 93, was one of the earliest national heroes of 9/11, after he was among a group of passengers who stormed the cockpit and prevented the hijackers from crashing the plane in Washington, D.C. Beamer was born in Michigan and raised in Wheaton, where he attended Wheaton Christian Grammar

School and Wheaton Academy. He graduated from Wheaton College in 1991. In 1994 he moved to New Jersey, where he worked for Oracle Corporation until his death on 9/11. After the plane was hijacked, Beamer attempted to make an airphone call from his seat but was routed to a representative from GTE, Lisa Jefferson, with whom he stayed on the phone until its crash. Based on the info from this call and others about the fate of the three other hijacked planes that day, Beamer and several other passengers conspired to try to take the plane back from the hijackers. Beamer told Jefferson about the plan, recited the Lord's Prayer and 23rd Psalm with her, and then asked her to call his family to tell them he loved them. Then Beamer said to his fellow passengers, "Are you ready? Okay. Let's roll." The passengers' attempt to take the cockpit was revealed in the cockpit voice recording, which ended with the hijackers deciding to crash the plane. Beamer's "let's roll" line became a national rallying cry, including use by President George W. Bush for the ensuing War on Terror.

Beamer's name is the second visible in this photo of the memorial next to where Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville, Pa.

degree in accounting from the University of Texas, and in the summer of 2001 he moved from Chicago to New York, where that August he began work for Cantor Fitzgerald, the investment firm. On September 11, 2001, the 28-year-old Oswald was at work on the 101st floor of the north tower of the World Trade Center when American Airlines Flight 11 was deliberately crashed into the building's 93rd through 99th floors.

Jeffrey Mladenik was living in nearby Hinsdale, and on September 11 he was traveling for work on Flight 11. At the time of his death, Mladenik was the interim CEO of eLogic, a Los Angeles-based internet publishing company. He also worked as the pastor of Christ Church of Oak Brook in suburban Chicago.
