Inscription.
Few mines are fortunate enough to be dry. Many are wet mines and are forced to deal with disposing of the natural ground water that seeps, or pours, into the workings. Dewatering a mine can be very costly. This pump, made by the Deane Company of Holyoke, Mass. about 1900, combines 3 pistons, each 3" in diameter and 8" in stroke. The company was absorbed by the International Steam Pump Company in 1899 and by the Worthington Company in 1916. The electric motor, made by Allis Chalmers Manufacturing Co., Milwaukee, Wisconsin, produced 10 horsepower using 12.6 amps of electricity at 440 volts. Running at 1150 revolutions per minute it would drive the pump to deliver about 130 gallons per minute.
