The St. Cyriacus Church, also known colloquially as the Dome Church, was built following the merger of two parishes. The immediate cause for its construction was the fire at the former Cyriacus Chapel in 1877. Renowned Hoorn architect A.C. Bleijs was responsible for the design, and the brand-new Renaissance church was completed in 1882. The prestige of this project became clear even during the early stages of construction, when the foundation under one of the pillars proved insufficient and had to be reinforced with concrete. Ultimately, a true domed church arose in Hoorn.(Submitted on November 15, 2025.)
The facade is fully integrated into the streetscape, yet its clear structure makes it immediately recognizable as a church. Two magnificent towers rise alongside the central entrance. The domed church is also of great importance to the city's skyline, as its magnificent dome and lantern dominate the Hoorn skyline.
