Arundel-on-the-Bay in Anne Arundel County, Maryland — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
Arundel-on-the-Bay
The Arundel-on-the-Bay (AOTB) community began on August 6, 1890.
In 1892 two railroads allowed AOTB commuters to travel to Baltimore and Washington in less than one hour and forty-five minutes at a cost of $1.20.
The AOTB railroad started on this spot, stopped at Highland Beach and continued on to Bay Ridge, where a transfer to the Baltimore and Ohio (B & O)-owned Bay Ridge Railroad would whisk the rider to D.C. or Baltimore several times a day.
On the lawn beneath this sign are rail segments from each railroad which were uncovered during excavation at the approximate location where the two railroads met.
Erected by Arundel-on-the-Bay History Project.
