A tribute to Gold Star Families and Relatives who sacrificed a Loved One for our Freedom.

This monument honors, recognizes, and serves Gold Star Families and the legacy of their Loved Ones who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the Armed Forces of the United States of America.

The Homeland panel depicts images representing the Greater Minnesota area, which is home to many Military and Gold Star Families; it's our people, it's our family, it's our freedom. We represent that no corner of our beautiful state has been untouched by the service and sacrifice by countless men and women. We have embodied the true Minnesota landscape and values by representing historic Military facilities and national cemeteries. Pictured is our very diverse landscape including Lake Superior, the plains, the Mississippi River, bluff country, and the lakes and woodlands that we are most known for.

The Family panel represents the uniquely brave spirit of our Military families who provide support to their Loved Ones serving in our Armed Forces of the United States of America. No member of the Gold Star family remains untouched

by the sacrifice of our Loved Ones. Loss touches all generations of a family, no bond is unscathed. You see the silhouette of men and women, boys and girls from different eras, representing that this loss has been happening for generations and will continue as long as we have men and women fighting for our freedoms.

The Patriot panel shows the raising of the American Flag on Iwo Jima, which symbolizes those who vigorously support and defend our great Nation through selfless service in our Armed Forces.

The Sacrifice panel represents the sacrifices made by our Gold Star Families by the loss of their Loved One while in service to our country. Sacrifice comes from all branches of the military with the bald eagle representing the ultimate sign of freedom. The reverence of the ultimate sacrifice, the honor in which we, the Gold Star Families, are supported, starts from the moment our loved one is lost.

The silhouette of the saluting service member represents the Legacy of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the Armed Forces of the United States of America.
