Inscription. Located along Byler Road, Maxwell Chapel Methodist Church was organized April 12, 1911, in the Pebble community. John Thomas Maxwell, his wife, Mary C. Maxwell, and 14 other charter members founded the church. The Maxwell family donated the land for the church and cemetery to the Methodist Conference, which gave the church its name. J. E. Jenkins was the church's first pastor. Film and TV actor Pat Buttram is buried in the adjoining cemetery. The first church building, torn down in 1961, stood where the current building, erected in 1962, now stands.
