1. Southern Live Oak Marker
Inscription.
The southern live oak is one of the most iconic trees of this region. These trees typically live to over 400 years and there are some estimates of trees in the Deep South that date from 500 to 1,000 years old.

The large, sculptural forms of the trees create shady canopies and habitats for a wide variety of wildlife. These trees are also extremely strong and were used for battle ships by the U.S. Navy before modern technology.

Erected by Walter Anderson Museum of Art.
