A Pal Remembered...

A Pal Remembered.... . , Reunited on a beach in the South Pacific, Sergeant Arthur Glatfelter, of York, PA, embraces his beloved canine companion. Glatfelter enlisted into the United States Marine Corps following graduation from William Penn High School in 1942. One year later, "Pal" was enlisted in the Marine Corps "Dogs for Defense" program. At the time of enlistment, "Pal" was a four-year old pure bred German Shep[he]rd that had belonged to Glatfelter since puppyhood., "Pal" completed over two years of active service as a Marine War Dog, during which time his conduct and performance of duty were excellent. "Pal" saw a variety of combat experience, being used as a scout, messenger, stalker and pointer throughout his service. On May 10th, 1946 "Pal" was granted an Honorable Discharge for exemplary service to the "Devil Dog" unit and having risen to the rank of Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps.
