Inscription.
According to tax records, Christian Stoner built a log structure and stable on this property in 1840. There was a well in the side yard of the property where townsfolk from the lower end of town paid a yearly fee to obtain their water from the Stoners. There are rumors that the only casualty from Shiremanstown during the Civil War was a man who was shot while getting water from the well. Some people say it was Confederate sharp shooters, while others say it was someone target shooting. The story continues to be passed down by the townspeople through the years. The well continues to exist today.

In 1857, Christian sold the property to his brother John Stoner, a wagon maker. The original property included six acres. In later years, John added an L-shaped section onto the back of the house.

The children of John Stoner, Frederick and Ella Stoner, kept the house and land with the Stoner family from 1862 until 1927. In 1908, Frederick sold his half to Ella. Then in 1927, a builder, Paul Cressman, purchased the house and land, along with the surrounding acreage to develop twenty-five lots. Later that same year, Lindley Dennis

purchased the house and land. He made improvements to the home by adding a sun porch and back porch. In 1937, he sold the house and land to Amy Dodge for one dollar.

Between 1938 and 1983, there have been four owners, each one modernizing the home a bit. Sylvia and Victor Funk purchased the home in 1983. They have restored the home to its original wood floors, opened the back stairway and saved wallpaper and painted areas from early years. They also had a replica of a Colonial Williamsburg carriage house built at the back of the property. The Funk's [sic] continue to restore this beautiful home and property. The Christian Stoner home and land are an attribute to Shiremanstown's history.
