A Long Week
At the turn of the century, farm families worked hard Monday through noon on Saturday then headed for town to buy supplies, have equipment repaired and socialize.
By Saturday night everyone was ready for a good time at the public dances held upstairs in commercial buildings and on the streets. Cornmeal was sprinkled on the pavement to make a smoother surface. Women brought desserts and musicians passed the hat.
